BOPA 2015 - a round-up

Written on Monday 19th October 2015

As secretariat for the British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA), at Succinct (an OPEN Health company) we are excited that the annual conference is fast approaching. For those that haven’t yet registered for what will be another memorable event, let us share with you some important reasons why you should come to BOPA 2015.

BOPA is a UK-based association that promotes excellence in the pharmaceutical care of patients with cancer through education, communication, research and innovation. BOPA comprises over 800 individual members made up of hospital, community and academic pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals, as well as 40 corporate members.

At the core of BOPA 2015 will be a tailored and comprehensive educational programme that guarantees an array of lively presentations, workshops, debates and industry-sponsored symposia. It is estimated that over 400 delegates will be in attendance at this year’s conference which will educate within three key themes—‘Clinical updates’, ‘Research and development’, and ‘NHS, policy, access to drugs’—and promises to deliver up-to-date, relevant and thought-provoking content that will enhance the attendees’ understanding of the pharmaceutical oncology field.

Helen Flint, BOPA Chair, is extremely enthusiastic about this year’s programme:
“I am really looking forward to hearing about our members’ practice across the UK. We have got some fantastic speakers on the programme; it’s hard to choose which stream to pick.”

When asking delegates from previous BOPA conferences why they keep coming back, the answer invariably covered a common theme:networking. BOPA conferences are prime opportunities for like-minded people from the same field to gather together, interact and cultivate productive relationships that support and advance the pharmaceutical care of oncology patients in the UK. The interactive nature of BOPA conferences is remarkable - you will struggle to find a better chance to connect with your colleagues and industry.

You really can’t afford to miss BOPA 2015, but don’t just take our word for it; see what previous attendees think:

"The BOPA symposium is a key event in the oncology and haematology pharmacist’s calendar, offering a great opportunity for education and networking with NHS and pharma colleagues."
Simon Purcell, Lead Haematology Pharmacist and Aseptic Services Manager, Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

"The BOPA conference remains one of the UK’s biggest cancer conferences and in my view provides a unique opportunity for industry to engage with these key stakeholders."
Steve Williamson, Consultant Cancer Pharmacist, Head of Chemotherapy, Northumbria & North Cumbria NHS Trusts/North of England Specialised Commissioning Team, NHS England

"Oncology and haematology pharmacists are vital to the efficient commissioning and safe provision of anti-cancer therapy to patients in the UK. BOPA provides a great forum to engage this key group, at all levels, and facilitate networking and education."
Stephen Kelly, Medical Affairs Manager, Pfizer Onclogy UK

"The annual BOPA symposium is a unique event that brings together pharmacy staff involved in cancer services and industry representatives. For many pharmacy staff this is their only opportunity to meet up with other colleagues from both the private and the NHS sectors, discuss current best practice and hear about new developments."
Geoff Saunders, Consultant Oncology Pharmacist, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
