OPEN Health congratulates the‘OPEN 3 Peaks Challenge’ team on completing the taxing yet rewarding climb of ‘The National 3 Peaks challenge’ - Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Snowdon in Wales. This challenge see’s hikers climb a total of 11,178 ft over a total distance of 27 miles in under 24 hours.

After months of careful planning, training and preparation the 1st July saw members of the team make their way to Fort William and, after watching Wales’s triumph in the Euro 2016 match against Belgium, the team were up bright and early to start their ascent up Ben Nevis at 6:22am.

Ben Nevis was completed in a very soggy and snowy 5 hours with the team leaving Ben Nevis at 10:20am. Unfortunately the bus driver got a bit lost so, arriving at Scafell Pike at about 7:30pm, an hour and a half later than planned, the team had some serious catching up to do. Rising to the challenge again, the team were back at the bus in 2 hours 50 minutes.

Unfortunately, the driver’s navigation skills were exposed again, when the team were late to Snowdon; arriving another 1.5 hours late. The team knew they were up against it, to make the true 24 hours.

Two of the group completed in sub 24 hours real time (one arriving at 6.00 am and the other at 6:15 am) all of the team, however, made it back before 7.00 am!

Subtracting this time lost, and adjusting to an average drive time to each peak (10.5 hours total), as well as taking the longest times of all teams members (last back to the bus), the whole group actually completed in 22 hours and 10 minutes…  A great achievement!

Admiring the sunrise over Snowdon - nearly there!

At the top of Snowdon - a little bit tired and wet, however misson accomplished!

Not only is this a fantastic personal achievement for all involved, the ‘OPEN 3 Peaks Challenge’ team have raised an impressive £2,370 (to date) for the very worthy Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Further donations would be gratefully received, the fundraising page will remain open until Friday 15th July 2016.

Again, congratulations and well done to you all:-
