Meet Eleanor Lucas, an OPEN Health Scientific Trailblazer

Written by Christina DuVernay on Friday, March 21, 2025

An effective value story is built on evidence, meticulously developed and compellingly presented. As such, it requires both the scientist’s mind and the writer’s craft.

Eleanor Lucas has both. As Associate Director in Strategic Market Access, she works on systematic and targeted literature reviews, AMCP and global value dossiers, medical communications, and slide decks.

“By using the available evidence to demonstrate an intervention’s value and presenting that value in a succinct, unbiased, and well-supported way,” Eleanor says, “I help ensure that the client is prepared at every stage of the product life cycle to establish value, a process that culminates in patients accessing needed therapies.”

When Eleanor joined OPEN Health/Pharmerit as a Research Assistant in 2017, she found that her training as a scientist and her strong writing skills particularly suited her to value communications. With each expansion of her role, she gained experience and knowledge in market access and became adept at communicating with different audiences, including laypersons, scientists, and healthcare decision-makers such as payers.

In 2022, Eleanor earned an MPH from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she was a Center Scholar at the Center for Drug Safety and Effectiveness. She also earned her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins, with a major in public health.

Before she joined OPEN Health/Pharmerit, Eleanor was Research Assistant and then Research Program Coordinator in the Department of Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she became well-versed in the practice of science, from study design through data collection, management, and analysis.

Eleanor is an author on 13 papers in peer-reviewed journals, among them the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, JAMA Internal Medicine, and Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

With her commitment to the science of gathering evidence and her facility with the art of presenting it, Eleanor is a Scientific Trailblazer at OPEN Health.
