Written on Thursday 25th April 2024

Laura McCormick is a long-standing leader in the scientific communications industry and has been participating in International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) conferences for most of her 24-year career. She is an active ISMPP member who frequently moderates roundtables across a range of topics, including patient involvement in publications, metrics, and copyright licensing, that engage a diversity of industry participants. In 2019, Laura collaborated with a group of ISMPP members to significantly revise the ISMPP code of ethics. This year, Laura will be moderating the following roundtable at the upcoming ISMPP meeting in Washington, DC:

Roundtable session: How to combat bias in medical communications: Tailor your story to your audience
Date: April 30, 2024
Time:
4:00 - 4:45 PM

Laura was also the Strategic Lead for Medical Publishing, Insights, and Practices (MPIP) from 2016 to 2018, working alongside members of the pharmaceutical industry and the ISMPP to elevate trust, transparency, and integrity in reporting the results of industry-sponsored research. During this time, she moderated the MPIP annual Journal Editor-Pharma Roundtable, which covered changes in the publishing environment, such as open access publishing, and the ICMJE requirement for data sharing statements. Laura also partnered with medical journal editors to develop “MPIP Insights for Authors,” a video educational series that guides authors and publications professionals on best practices when developing industry-sponsored research publications.

As OPEN Health’s Executive Vice President of Medical and Scientific Services, she is leading a team of highly experienced publications experts working alongside clients to enhance and extend the reach of their publications.

“My greatest contribution to the publications industry is the mentorship and training of scientific storytellers and our industry’s future leaders,” she says.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys creative writing and spending time with her family and pet menagerie. Beyond her writing, she expresses her creativity through beaded artwork and gardening.

Laura’s years of dedication to the industry and her leading role in shaping ethical and strategic publications practices make her a Scientific Trailblazer at OPEN Health.
